How Music Benefits Sleep & Happiness

When parents sign their children up for music lessons, they might not be aware of the benefits music has on a child’s life. While the direct correlation between music and improved life quality is not directly apparent, countless studies have proven that music can impact sleep, academics and happiness.

As music is played, electrical signals in the brain convert sound waves. The sounds trigger physical effects throughout the body which regulate hormones and stress levels. Music also triggers dopamine, a positive chemical in the brain, which improves one’s mood, even as they sleep.

Not only does music improve physical quality of life, students who are involved in music activities at school have a 90.2% graduation rate versus 72.9% for non-music students. This significantly higher graduation rate! Music lessons also teach children valuable life skills such as communication, listening skills, teamwork skills, hand eye coordination, how to multitask, and much more.

The discipline of music education creates a strong work ethic and establishes the mind set that hard work, dedication, determination, and a positive mind set can one up for success. The benefits of music lessons can significantly improve your child’s life in ways you might not have known.
