Jared Rabin – Guitar/Violin/Piano

Jared Rabin is a guitarist, violinist, mandolinist, singer, songwriter, composer and music teacher from Chicago. He started learning violin at age 5 went on to play in China, Singapore, Taiwan, and all across the US with a strings performance group as a kid. He began playing guitar as a teenager, and learned mandolin as well. Jared grew up listening to Rock ‘n Roll, and took and interest in jazz and bluegrass music in his high school years.

After two years of school at the Thornton School of Music at University of Southern California, Jared returned to Chicago to finish school and begin playing professionally. From 2006-2008, Jared was a member of the violin section in the Chicago Civic Orchestra, and performed under internationally acclaimed conductors including Pierre Boulez and Bernard Haitink. Around the same time, he was writing and playing guitar for with a jam-rock band called Nebulous, as well as performing as a sideman with local blues band Safe Haven, jazz sax player Frank Catalano, and an array of other groups. He was also studying jazz guitar with the legendary Bobby Broom, and eventually earned a degree in Jazz Studies from DePaul Univesity. He also holds a Masters Degree in Jazz Composition from DePaul University.

Jared became part of The HUE in 2007 for a regular weekly stint at the once legendary Wise Fools Pub in Chicago. The band has since gained serious notoriety in the progressive rock world, having released two critically acclaimed records and performed at major music festivals and venues across the Midwest. Jared’s compositions from their Beyond Words album have been featured on WXRT in Chicago as well as college radio stations nationwide.

Jared’s newest original group is a band called Falldown, comprised of some of Chicago’s best singer/songwriters and most in demand musicians. doing their own unique brand of alt/country music. Falldown’s first studio record, an EP of six of Jared’s original songs, came out in November 2012 and has been featured on Chicago and college radio stations, as well as many renowned music blogs internationally. Their buzz continues to grow as they continue to play shows and record new music.

In addition to his own original projects, be seen performing rock, jazz, bluegrass, and much more with an array of different artists. He is the lead guitarist in Chicago’s most amazing event band, The Gold Coast Allstars, and the bandleader of the brand new Chicago Players, which both feature some of the city’s most talented performers. He is the regular guitarist with “L’Amourchestra” jazz quartet on Sundays at The Everleigh Social Club in Chicago. He can also be seen playing with bands and artists including Safe Haven, Jeffrey David, Elisa Grace, The Dog Patch Ramblers, and Danny Chaimson.

With years of experience teaching both private lessons and group classes, as well as directing many student ensembles, Jared’s background and unique set of skills enable him to provide comprehensive instruction in music while making the experience fun for the student. He always incorporates fundamental skills and techniques that allow the student to grow independently as well as interact with other musicians, and also is able to tailor each lesson to any student’s personal interests and abilities.
