AMI is delighted to announce that two talented musicians and teachers have joined our faculty in Clarendon Hills and St. Charles. They follow in a long line of AMI teacher/performers in the Chicago area who have the experience necessary to give our students a 21st century musical education.
Anthony Salazar graduated from Northern Illinois University with a Bachelor of Music in Classical Guitar Performance studying with Fareed Haque. He received a Master of Music from Roosevelt University, Chicago College of Performing Arts, studying with Paul Henry. Mr. Salazar has studied both guitar and piano respectively at NIU and Roosevelt Univ. He currently studies with GFA winner and Naxos recording artist Dennis Azabagic. Mr. Salazar is a guitar faculty member at Waubonsee Community College and University of St. Francis. He is highly diverse in being able to play and teach all styles of music, including rock, metal, jazz and classical.
Jessie Shulman received her Master’s degree from the University of Cincinnati College-Conservatory of Music (CCM) in 2014, where she studied voice under the tutelage of bass-baritone Kenneth Shaw.
Jessie sings with the Chicago Symphony Chorus and as a section leader at the Union Church of Hinsdale. Her recent performances at CCM include Kate Julian in Britten’s Owen Wingrave, Marcellina in Mozart’s Le nozze di Figaro, and Mrs. Hildebrand in Weill’s Street Scene. Jessie made her debut at Cincinnati Opera in 2013 as Third Noble Orphan in Der Rosenkavalier. She is also a member of the Cincinnati Opera Chorus, and has appeared in their productions of Carmen, Madama Butterfly, Don Giovanni, and Aïda. During her undergraduate years, she performed many roles, including Cherubino in Le nozze di Figaro, Nicklausse inLes contes d’Hoffmann, Annio in La clemenza di Tito, and Dorothée in Cendrillon. Jessie also enjoys singing art song and concert repertoire, and had the pleasure of performing Berlioz’s Les nuits d’été with the Brandon Hill Chamber Orchestra in 2013.
Jessie has attended the prestigious Aspen Music Festival and School, and the American Institute of Musical Studies (AIMS) in Graz, where she won the Harold Heiberg Liedersänger Preis in 2011. Jessie holds a Bachelor’s degree in opera performance from California State University Long Beach, where she studied with tenor Timothy MacDougall.
