Erica Schuller – Voice & Piano
Erica Schuller (soprano) received her B.M. in Vocal Performance and Music Education from the Eastman School of Music (2006), and her M.M. in Vocal Performance from the San Francisco Conservatory ofMusic (2009). She is an active soloist specializing in Baroque repertoire, and has performed with such renowned ensembles as The Haymarket Opera Company, The Boston Early Music Festival, San Francisco Bach Choir, The Milwaukee Symphony Orchestra and Opera Siam (Bangkok), among others. Though she performs primarily Baroque repertoire, Erica has experience singing in a variety of genres, including musical theater, jazz and gospel.
In addition to her work as a performer, Erica is an experienced and passionate instructor, committed to empowering students and guiding them towards the fulfillment of their musical goals. She has been teaching privately since 2006, has held positions as a choral conductor, church music director and opera director. She has also led master classes through the Florentine Opera Company in Milwaukee, WI. In 2011 she joined the staff of Brass Bell Music in Glendale, WI and over three years developed a studio of more than 25 students (ages 8-70). Erica moved to the Chicago area two years ago and has been teaching and performing locally during that time.
With 10 years of teaching experience, Erica Schuller specializes in guiding students toward energized, released sound production based in coordinated body movement. By shedding excess manipulation and tension, and allowing the body to move as a coordinated unit, students are able to increase range, stamina and competency in music making. This approach ensures that the same basic principles can be applied to a range of musical styles (pop, gospel, musical theater, etc.). In addition to vocal technique, Erica also works with students to build confidence, sing independently, and increase musical vocabulary while reducing performance anxiety.
