Jered Montgomery – Brass/Winds
Jered Montgomery received a MM from The Chicago College of the Performing Arts – Roosevelt University, and a BM from Southern Illinois University-Carbondale.
As an educator, Montgomery is the Director of Bands and Professor of Brass/Winds at Morton College. Mr. Montgomery teaches brass and wind instruments… including trumpet, trombone, tuba, French Horn, clarinet and saxophone.
Equally at home with all styles of music, Montgomery has become one of Chicago’s most diverse and in-demand musicians. In classical music, Jered performs regularly with the Chicago Composer’s Orchestra, Chicago Symphonic Winds, Southern Illinois Music Festival, Oak Park Symphony, Midwest Philharmonic, and Full Score Chamber Orchestra, In chamber music, Jered performs with the Temporal Brass Quintet and the Wunderbrass. In 2008, Jered made his Carnegie Hall debut with the SIUC WInd Ensemble. He’s been a featured trumpet soloist with the Southern Illinois Symphony, Music Colliguim, and the Chicago Symphonic Winds.
In jazz, Jered has played under and shared the stage with Kurt Elling, Allan Toussaint, Orbert Davis, and Irving Mayfield.
Montgomery has performed in pit orchestras for countless theater and recording sessions. Recent Chicago companies include: Porchlight Theatre, Kokandy Productions, Bailywick, Theo Ubique, Getz Theater, Jetlica Performing Arts, Highland Park Players, Musically Human Theatre, and BAM Theater.
Mr. Montgomery has attended the Eastern Music Festival and Domaine Forget in Quebec. He’s studied privately with Mark Ridenour (CSO) and Channing Philbrick (Lyric Opera), Mark Niehaus (Milwaukee), Dr Robert Allison (SIUC and New Arts Jazztet). He’s performed at masterclasses for Dale Clevenger (CSO), Jay Friedman (CSO), and Gerard Schwartz (NYPhil).
